People say that you can never really go back home again. I’ve found that this has been true for me in so many ways. But before I went into the army I thought I would visit the place that held the fondest memories for me. I longed for memories of my friends, family, and the fragrance of jasmine in the summer. My mother had warned me that the old place wasn’t as I remembered.
While driving to my hometown, all I could think of was how I would soon see my old friends, and the old home where I grew up. I can still hear the laughter that I shared with my brothers and sisters and I couldn’t wait to get there. It had been some years since I’d been there. The last time I had come out was for my grandmother. The entire time I was there all I could see was how much the old house needed to be repaired.
When I drove up the driveway things seemed to look as they always had. The only things missing were the kids and the dogs. My heart felt sad for the neglect (忽视) of the old home place but there was nothing I could do. I didn’t know how bad it was until I walked to the front door. A gentle wind blew the webs which hung from various places on the door. I gently pushed open the front door. Dust flew in all directions. Rats had made nests in the dark corners of the room. I thought that if I closed my eyes tight enough, I could picture how the room looked when I was younger.
