Kenneth Wei is an extraordinary senior at Mount Sinai High School. After completing Advanced Placement (AP) courses, he becomes an AP Scholar with Distinction.The 18-year-old has many interests.He followed optional courses ranging from psychology to computer programming. “I just really wanted to enjoy my high school experience and not focus too much on academics, which stress many people out,” he said.

Over the past two summers, Wei has worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory to pay for his school fee,where he was recognized for his contributions to his research. Athletics also figures significantly in Wei's life. He holds a record in track. “I love track because mostly it is individual. When you achieve results, you can certainly owe these to the hard work of your own,” he said. In addition to track and fields, Wei shows constant enthusiasm for music. He played the piano since he was 7.

Even more active at school, Wei joined the student government, finally serving as president in his senior year. Meanwhile, he involved himself in volunteer activities. “Even though we don't give___reward, to see a product of your work is just satisfying,” he said.

For Scott McEvoy, Wei's school advisor, his good character stands out. “While he is perfectly capable, he's always modest and respectful,”MacEvoy said.

The multifaceted Wei always offers one suggestion to others. “Remember, do not limit yourselves. If you are a musician, you don't always stay a musician. Whatever your talents are, you can always branch out and go beyond your comfort zone. You will discover your new self. That surprises yourself and other people.”
