International model United Nations meetings are events at which high school and college students from all over the world play the role of UN representatives. The meetings are also designed to help students become more openminded. Students often play the role of representatives for countries other than their own. This encourages them to learn more about other cultures and to think about important problems in different ways. While pretending to be from a different country, students are receiving a lot of ideas and information that they would not normally consider. Usually, they come away with a much better understanding of people in different cultures. This experience often gives them an advantage over schoolmates who only learn about world events and international relations in traditional classrooms.
